Spevak Studios
An exploration in memory and nostalgia.
Reminiscence exists not only within the frame of one’s mind but also through the strokes of paint and fragmented color. This distorted, cinematic sense is used to exhibit the nostalgic occurrences of simple, yet fragmented memories displayed throughout my life. An image emerges that the viewer can recognize but not necessarily place; almost tangible, inviting the viewer to shatter rationale.
Through painting and mixed media, my work responds to the temporary and poignant moments and spaces that evoke feelings of nostalgia, longing, and memory. These scenes are exhibited in a way that establishes a context, interpretive to the audience but familiar to the mind. My work invites the viewer to visually inhabit these spaces—pass through waters, linger in the liminal spaces, and discover memories once lost, found in a seemingly normal reality.
About
Sydney Spevak is a fine artist who currently resides in rural Ohio. After receiving her bachelor’s degree from the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana, she began establishing herself as an artist in the local community. She has painted large-scale murals in the surrounding Fort Wayne area and has traveled overseas to multiple countries, immersing herself in the diverse artistic culture, which helped the growth of her own style.
She works with themes focusing on nostalgia, memory, fragmentation, and, most recently, abstract landscapes, where she concentrates on markmaking that contours subjects in dreamy, blurred memories.
Sydney was the Best of Show recipient in 2022 at the University of Saint Francis senior exhibition, awarded 3rd place in 2023 at the Gateway Arts Council Spring Fling show, awarded 1st place in 2025 at the Art Space Lima Spring show, and was a recipient of the Douglas Edward Koch Memorial Award in 2025 at the 70th Wassenberg Art Center June Show.
